And what Copenhagen means to travel

Right this minute, 190 leaders from around the world are convening in Copenhagen, Denmark for possibly one of the most historic global conferences on climate change. Discussion topics range from mitigation (how to reduce the effects of change), adaptation (reducing our vulnerability by adapting) and climate debt (the “polluter pays more” concept in helping the world re-balance). Goals are to reach consensus on the targets we can all own.

World from spaceWorld from spaceWhether you believe the statistics or think it’s conspiracy hype (as the hacked emails from the Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia are touted to prove), we can all agree our world is worth protecting! The beauty of the world’s vistas, wildlife and greenery are only available on our little planet.

Take a look around. We all need to take personal ownership to improve our impact on this planet so we can still have items in our bucket-list yet to see like …

City under waterCity under waterCan you imagine how many bucket-list items will be destroyed by ocean levels rising? Past world history shows that the polar ice caps have melted before. The effect was a rise in sea levels of 220 feet. How many cities and beautiful places will be gone? If deserts continue to dry and spread, how many more badlands will we see? If we lose 20% of the worlds species, what will be disrupted in the global eco-system?

If you love to travel and you love to see what this awesome world has to offer, let’s urge our world leaders to continue to effect change and make this world cleaner, healthier and life-sustaining. Our world is truly worth protecting, and this meeting in Copenhagen may indeed be a turning point for the world for the better.

What are your thoughts on the matter?? GG wants to know.

I had just purchased it on board the ship the day prior. But nothing can compare to the loss of a family member. The Captain had everyones attention for the announcement. Captain Draper done a great job informing the passengers of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rumphrey family."

My heart was so heavy over the thought of his dear parents losing their son on what was to be a very happy time. My heart is with his family and I will pray for them."

I was very impressed with the way Captain Draper handled the situation and I told him so. He made it a priority to inform all passengers and eliminated rumor and speculation. It's nice to know the other passengers involved felt the driver saved their lives. The roads in Tortola are terrible and I'm sure much skill is involvd navigating them safely. I hope you enjoyed your cruise, despite this tragedy. Julia"

  • On Tour Bus Crash in Tortola – Caribbean Princess Passenger Dies, Anonymous said "I just returned from this tragic Caribbean Princess cruise. Although I was not a part of this particular excursion, it was both saddening and shocking for everyone on the ship when Capt. Draper made the announcements. The following day, we spoke to one of the excursion bus passengers who felt the bus driver did everything in his power to slow the bus down and they felt the bus driver had saved all of their lives. According to my fellow passenger, the fatality was caused by the young man being thrown through the front windshield. Of note, it was rumored told during the cruise that a witness saw the brakes being worked prior to the excursion."
