A spa out of the blue

In the middle of a high-powered day, consider slipping in to The SilveryBlue Butterfly day spa. A giant blue butterfly looms above the door like a beacon of airy playfulness and good karma. Lucky for you, it's the kind of diversion that will make the chaos of your day - even the busiest of days - flutter away.

Mani/Pedi at SilveryBlue Butterfly SpaMani/Pedi at SilveryBlue Butterfly Spa"I market to the average woman, like me, a working mom," says Susan Chartier, SilveryBlue owner. I want [our clients] to experience the luxury, feel like they've gone to Vegas or Europe and they did it in their own backyard."

Spa Overview

SilveryBlue Butterfly Salon, Spa & Boutique is nestled in the heart of everyday life on the Mississauga/Oakville border at the Oakville Entertainment Centrum (Ontario, Canada). While the external hull is definitely mall-like, one step inside transports you into a luxurious setting where you're surrounded by old-school glamour.

"That's why I [used] a fluffy name," says Chartier. "I didn't want people to be intimidated by it or think we're expensive. We're not cheap by any means, but we're not outrageous. It really is for all women."

After checking in, you're welcomed to browse leisurelyRelaxing at the spa

in the boutique or linger over a glass of wine from the fully licensed bar. Behind the bar an enormous tank is filled with colorful tropical fish that seem suspended in a mid-air dance between you and the real nirvana of the spa - the treatment and spa therapy rooms.

This spa exists to make women feel comfortable and beautiful and pampered. Men aren't exactly encouraged to spa here, but they aren't banned either. SilveryBlue Butterfly indulges men by inviting them to couples' nights on Tuesdays so that for the rest of the week the regular female clientele can truly let their hair down and relax.

This spa's gracious space accommodates large parties easily. Because it's so close to everyday life, even large bridal parties can gather for a morning of pampering before jetting off to the ceremony. Need a girlfriend getaway or some serious bonding time with your Mommy and Me group? It's the perfect space to soak away the calluses and be as pampered as a princess.

Facilities & Activities

Because the spa is housed in the Oakville Entertainment Spectrum, you'll find plenty of dining options nearby. After your facial, extend the de-stressing with a latte at Timothy's Coffee, take in a movie at AMC theatres or show off your latest new do afterhours at My Apartment.

Spa Details and Specialties (Treatments)

Hydrotherapy Treaments at SilveryBlue Butterfly SpaHydrotherapy Treaments at SilveryBlue Butterfly SpaSilveryBlue Butterfly is a vast 12,000 sq ft, encompassing several themed treatment rooms, 16 salon seats and a boutique loaded with opulent treasures. Generous windows flood many of the rooms with natural light, giving an ethereal sensation as you snuggle into a massage chair for a pedicure or recline to have your hair washed and head massaged.

Chartier invites all guests, whether they're having one or five treatments, to come early to soak in the whirlpool or detox in the steam room or sauna. "I don't recommend using these after a treatment though because all our rich oils will wash away. For most of our spa treatments, you don't want to wash the oils off for at least a few hours. The longer you leave them on, the deeper they'll penetrate."

Change Rooms: Showers, lockers, hot tub, steam room and dry sauna.

Specialty Equipment: Hydrotherapy/Chromatherapy tubs, pregnancy massage tables and Vichy shower.

Innovative Treatments: Myofascial Massage and Lava Shell Massage.

Actually, where I sit currently (on a barrier island) has been under water many times. Staying on an island is scary. We leave if it is over a CAT 1. The most important thing for us is to fill our gas tanks at the first inkling that there may be a storm. Water, medicines, non perishable food, they're all really important. Honestly, if it is a big storm, alcohol later serves as pay for work. We stock up on EVERYTHING. We start eating out of the freezer days before (like we did tonight, getting ready for Earl). You don't want much to go bad. Then we tie up all the trash cans, secure grills, and hold on for dear life :)"

The buses in Mexico are very comfortable like flying in a plane they often have movies and it is safer.Plan your trip and don't travel alone especially if you are female.Women traveling alone are a target Good luck and stay alert."
