Traveling with tweeps couldn't be more fun!

Last month I traveled to North Carolina for business but didn't get see much more than the freeway, the tradeshow and my hotel room. Not my idea of a dream vacation.

Twitter TravelTwitter TravelWhen I travel with my Tweeps, I'm not bound by a schedule or a demanding boss. And while I'm not really a staycation kinda girl, the eco-logic of Twitter travel soothes my itchy feet until I can travel in earnest again. The carbon footprint of computer surfing doesn't compare to a super jet's fuel output.

If you're on Twitter, these folks aren't shy about sharing what they love about their pieces of this earth - or anything else for that matter. If you're smart, you'll follow them so they can help you find the places to eat, sleep and play the next time you're headed to parts unknown.

@CoachCharrise - She's full out and fearless in Indiana and while her smile energizes me, it's her generosity and caring that I'm truly grateful for.

@SandyGuerriere - There's so much I love about Sandy, but one thing that makes her very special in my world is her commitment to sustainable living. On my next trip to NC, I'm taking off with Sandy for a beach party!

@VincentHunt - His bio names Starbucks as his location, but I know he lives in the wide open blue skies of creativity. Seriously, if you ever need inspiration, Vincent is your go-to-guy!

@AnnDouglas - Ann doesn't live far from me and I've known her a long time but I love her commitment to getting away for girltime. That reminds me, Ann's planning a getaway in June and my invitation hasn't arrived yet....

@WarwickMerry - His megawatt smile lights a path from my PC in Canada to his in Australia. He's often sipping wine when I'm downing my first coffee and is always a day ahead - which never fails to give me hope.

@Jerry_Cohen - I met Jerry for the first time last week in NC and I think I may have scared him when I rushed in for a hug. It's hard not to feel like you know someone when you've been twittering together for months. Besides, I've always wanted to visit the Big Apple....

@JohnStrauss - John's talents with iron and wood take my breath away - and his friendship on Twitter is pretty sweet too. Although Canton, Ohio isn't on my top ten list of places to see before I die, I wouldn't turn down an invite.

Do you have an escape route for those days when you'd rather be jetting off into the sunset? And if Twitter is part of your plan, I'd love to know about the Tweeps you follow!

So true Julia. I feel like

So true Julia. I feel like I've traveled the world by connecting with others on Twitter from across the globe. And it's great connecting with you on Twitter so when we met in person the other week it felt we were friends for ages. When you're in New York City next, would enjoy playing host. Great post and thanks for the mention (thankfully there's no 140 character limit for comments!)

And yes, we adore the Bay of Fundy :-) While I'll agree it's no longer parka weather in your neck of the woods, it's not quite string bikini weather either. Shall we toast to it and let the beer warm us up? Happy St Paddy's Day! Julia"

  • On Canada Goes Green for St. Patrick's Day, Terri said "hey Travel girls, great to hear that you love our Bay of Fundy here on the east coast of Canada as much as you love Tim Horton's ...and, as a Bay of Fundy chick, I love the green tide analogy. For sure, there will be lots of fun times down here around St Paddy's day but I just want to send you a correction to say you certainly won't be needing a parka? to visit at this time of year. It's +8 to +10 degress Celius (that's in the 50s F for our American friends) - definitely well above parka weather. haha So nice that the birds are chirping and the maple sap is flying out of the trees and, ultimately, on to our pancakes. Happy spring! Terri the Bay of Fundy blogger bayoffundy.blogspot.com "

  • On Tour Bus Crash in Tortola – Caribbean Princess Passenger Dies, Jan said "We were also on the ship with our friends, had spent the day at the beach in Tortola where the slider on my Omega came off, "broke" and lost. I had just purchased it on board the ship the day prior. But nothing can compare to the loss of a family member. The Captain had everyones attention for the announcement. Captain Draper done a great job informing the passengers of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rumphrey family."
