Best Snorkeling in US Virgin Islands

Watermelon Cay - a solitary islet perfect for snorkeling

Snorkeling in ParadiseSnorkeling in ParadiseJust 200yds off St. John's northern coast you'll find a reef chockablock with parrotfish, stingrays and starfish. In the 1800s it was used for duels and is still popular today for the same reasons - far away from people and hard to reach.

  • If you're staying on St. Thomas, grab the ferry from either Charlotte Amalie ($10 each way for a 45-minute ride) or Red Hook ($5 each way for a 20-minute ride) to Cruz Bay, St. John's.
  • When you reach Cruz Bay, take a taxi to Leinster Bay trailhead (near Annaberg Sugar Plantation ruins).
  • The reef is a 30-minute hike from the trailhead.
  • Make sure you pack a dry bag for your valuables. Leaving them on the beach is like asking someone to relieve you of them.
