Meaghan Coneybeare ~ GoGirlfriend's Social Media Intern

Bring it, Meaghan!

GoGirlfriend has been online for almost 5 years and it's been a rocky and amazingly fun ride. We're growing again and pleased as punch to introduce our new social media go-to-gal - Meaghan. You wait long enough in airport terminals, so we won't make you wait any longer to get to know Meaghan better.

Introducing Meaghan ConeyBeare!

Meaghan, how did you get started in social media?

Introducing Meaghan ConeybeareIntroducing Meaghan ConeybeareI started on Facebook around 2006 after much urging from my husband, who was at the time my fiancé. It wasn't until late 2009 that I took to Twitter after seeing so many others try it out. I figured it would be a great way to network and get others to know and be involved in some of the events I was doing in the community.

Why do you love social media so much?

I love social media because of the way it brings so many people together in a level playing field.  We are all there for similar reasons and it is easier to approach someone through a tweet or Facebook message that you might not get a chance to in person. What I love about that is I have been able to connect with some amazing people in my community and beyond in person who I might not have ever met otherwise.

What has been your "most fun" moment?

There have been a couple of fun moments where a celebrity will reply to a tweet or DM me on Twitter. But I would say my most fun moment was when I was at an event for women in business in the community and a woman came up to me and screeched out how excited she was to meet me! I soon learned she was Stephanie Tanner from Little Mushroom Catering. She knew me from Twitter and was so happy to meet me in person. I felt the same way as I enjoyed following her as well but it was just such a great feeling to know someone had been taking notice in what you had to say and would be so excited to meet you in person. That has happened a few times now but the feeling never goes away.

Let's talk about travel

GoGirlfriend's social media internGoGirlfriend's social media internIn the first few moments of meeting me you will know I love to travel. I feel like I'm missing out on the world around me if I'm at home too long. Any chance I get I take to see and experience other parts of our beautiful world, I take. I also enjoy helping others to experience it as well by doing tour coordination and marketing for a local company called Socially Responsible Safaris.

It's all in the name with SRS.

Guests who want to travel with a purpose come along on our safaris where they stay in environmentally-sensitive accommodations, plant trees to off-set their carbon footprint, enjoy locally-grown organic food and coffee and support local schools, health clinics, and orphanages along the route.

Tell us about what gets Meaghan excited

Besides traveling to faraway lands, I really get excited when I'm able to help others. Whether it's through through speaking at events where I get to tell my story or giving travel tips to those about to embark on a journey, I love when I can take my experiences and use them to help others. That also leads me to my excitement in this internship with GoGirlfriend. I am beyond honoured to be a part of such a great team and have a hand in dishing out travel tips and advice, but am more excited at all that I will be able to learn from the process and most importantly through Chief Girlfriend, Julia Rosien!
