Loudoun County (Leesburg, VA) Shopping
Loudoun County offers two diverse opportunities to satisfy your need to shop - historic downtown Leesburg or the modern Premium Outlets.
Historic downtown Leesburg delivers a quaint, relaxing boutique experience (GoGirlfriend recommendation - you must stop at Cup & Cork for its great coffee and unique ambiance) mixing restored older buildings home with distinctive boutiques, restaurants and civic government offices. We found walking these streets allowed us to tap into the historic charm of the town's early years. Narrow streets steeped in character - the old-world lives on in the architecture and decorations of the shops.
If your taste desires modern brand-name outlets like Coach, Michael Kors or Charlotte Russe, the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets is calling your name. More than 100 major outlets will tempt and tease you with enough modern fashion options to seriously stretch your pocketbook.
Wine Tours
What's relaxation without that great glass of Chardonnay or that "big red" you've been chasing. GoGirlfriend decided to go straight to the source for our bottle of relaxation, and being in such a rich wine country area, our travels took us to Doukenie Winery, Tarara Winery and Hillsborough Vineyards. The DC Wine Region is rich with over 35 wineries dotting the Loudoun County Wine Trail. Slip into your relaxation with local whites, roses or sumptuous reds. As your travels take you from the Smoky Mountains to the shores of the Potomac for your tasting pleasure, and I'm certain there will be a few gems you'll find to take back to your resort!
Civil War sites
The Virginia countryside is dotted with historic locations of battles big and small dating back to the Civil War era. Whether your sympathies swing Confederate or Union, Leesburg, Virginia was a politically important swing battle-zone (even back then) changing hands about 150 times in the war. Due to the many skirmishes and battles, important historic markers dot the entire area. Most notably in the area is the Balls Bluff Battlefield and National Cemetery situated just outside Leesburg where the Confederates inflicted a wounding defeat to the Union army. If you fancy historic battles and nation-building, you can follow the Civil War Trails throughout Virginia to immerse yourself in 1800's Civil war landscape.
Only 40 minutes away ...
The Loudoun County region holds many activities to be enjoyed, but part of Leesburg's allure is its proximity to the nation's capital Washington, DC. Just 40 minutes along the Dulles Toll Rd (VA-267) the opportunities to tour the National Capitol landmarks add extra allure. With such epic attractions as the National Monument and Memorials, the U.S. Capitol Building, the White House and the U.S. Supreme Court, we suggest you throw in some shopping in old Alexandria. A GoGirlfriend recommendation to add to your itinerary is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (housing greats like the Enola Gay and more recently the Space Shuttle Discovery, to name a few).
Equi-distant in the other direction opposing the bustle of Capitol Hill - the Blue Ridge Mountains deliver spectacular scenery. Take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the range in its grand glory (especially in the fall!).
