Golfer Kills Hawk - Gets a Lesson in Anger Management

What's a fair penalty for pro-golfer accused of killing hawk?

Some bizarre stories cross my desk, but this one made my week. A story in the Orlando Sentinal this week has golfers and bloggers all in a dither. Should pro-golfer, Tripp Isenhour, be charged with cruelty to animals?

You be the judge.

Golf Mishap?Golf Mishap?Isenhour was apparently annoyed with the loud shrieking of a red-shouldered hawk during the taping of his video at Orlando's Grand Cypress Golf Club. So, he took aim and after 9 attempts, he finally hit it on the 10th and killed the bird.

Orange County prosecutors have filed 2 misdemeanor charges against the 39-year-old golfer - cruelty to animals and killing a migratory bird. Considering how many shots it took to his mark and the fact that he's considered a pro-golfer, maybe they should add false advertising charges to the list.

The incident took place in mid-December while Isenhour was shooting his new video, "Shoot Like a Pro." Anyone else see the irony in this?

Apparently, Isenhour was so enraged by the bird's singing that he took a golf cart around a lake and drove shot after shot into the tree while the crew looked on. After 10 shots, the bird fell 30 ft to the ground.

"The bird was on his back, bleeding from his nostrils, his mouth was opening and closing slowly, and it was looking up at me as people ran over," sound engineer, Jethro Senger, told wildlife officials. Senger then picked up the bird and put it on a golf cart. "I saw its eyes slowly close and I was pretty sure that the bird had died."

Grand Cypress officials were unaware of the incident until Jenger contacted wildlife officials and say the incident is strictly between the state and the guest.

Not anymore - the whole world knows how bad of a golfer Isenhour is now - and how much he needs therapy.

Sound off on Isenhour's behavior? Do you think he should be charged?

No, He should only have to take a one shot penalty. Hitting a bird from that range is impressive. Get over it people!

As a trained wildlife rescue and triage worker I can tell you that the hawk suffered before dying. As a human I am horrified by the event and hope that the PGA steps up to the tee and bans him from the sport of golf - think Michael Vick.

Not only Isenhour should be held responsible, but all who witnessed this hideous incident. "Bad things happen when good people do nothing."

He should definitely be charged/ If he had hit it on accident that is one thing, but lining up for 10 shots is cruel and stupid. As part of his punishment Tiger should get to pelt this guy with 10 of his best shots.

This guy should be charged ... he had intent!!! There was another weird incident in August of 1983 where Yankees outfielder Dave Winfield killed a seagull at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium with a warmup throw. The Ontario police charged him with animal cruelty, although the charge was later dropped as intent was not the case. .

Hooray for Jethro Senger. Many people are too big of cowards to do the right thing. As for Mr.Ihaveyettogrowup, he should have to pay a top fine and do community service.

That makes me want to vomit. Not only were his actions cruel and unnecessary, but how did the crew just stand there? good for senger for bringing it to officials' attention, but I still don't see how they let this happen.

Yes, I think he should be charged. He purposely killed an animal not for food or self-defense, but because of a temper tantrum.

Yes this idiot should be charged, spend time in jail and pay the max fine also Banned from playing golf for a period of time. Killing an innocent bird what a great example to show the youth today
